Companies with the Nature Friendly Billing stamp are organizations that have socially committed themselves to preserving our environment through a progressive reduction and elimination of paper in their transactions, issuing all their invoices electronically including receipts, invoices, catalogues, rates, orders and other documentation previously printed on paper.

Compromisos

What compromises does Nature Friendly Billing imply?

  1. Complete progressive elimination of paper in commercial relationships between companies.
  2. Complete progressive elimination of physically sending documentation between companies.
  3. Progressive automation of the invoicing process, order reception, invoice management, reconciliations, etc.
  4. Elimination of error costs for resending the documentation justifying what the customer believes should be invoiced from the supplier, the financial expenses for the period of non-payment of invoices and the cost of reprocessing invoices after clarification of the issue.
  5. Progressive elimination of litigations over invoices causing new transaction costs like the recovery and verification of the delivery notes implied in the invoice, comparisons, discussions with the client, delay in payments to suppliers, etc.
  6. Complete progressive elimination of physical storage.
  7. Complete progressive elimination of access cost to documentation stored to recover information requested by auditors, inspectors, suppliers, clients, etc.

What impact does the consumption of paper have on the environment?

Repercusión

The main component of paper is cellulose extracted from paper pulp, which is manufactured from trees.

Considering that consumption of paper has multiplied by a factor of twenty during the 20th century with the inventions of the pen, photocopier, fax, printer, etc., it is obvious that:

- Over the last fifty years, a forest area the size of China and India together has disappeared throughout the world.

- The Amazon forest that houses 50 to 90% of the biological diversity of the planet is disappearing at the rate of a soccer field per second.

- The worldwide activities of the paper manufacturing industry have increased causing more contamination and residual wastes and, consequently, a greater greenhouse effect.

- Etc.

What impact does the manufacture of paper have on our planet?

Contribución

A small chain of only 10 establishments with an average of 8 orders per day generates 2.400 invoices per month and 28.800 by the end of the year

All this paper consumption has a terrible impact on our planet, since the paper manufacturing industry increases production to meet larger demands of this product, which necessarily implies more devastated forests, since no production would be possible without trees for raw materials.

The deforestation of our planet is having serious consequences, of which the following are highlighted:

- Extinction of animal and plant species due to the destruction of their habitat areas.

- Hotter summers: Trees preserve the humidity of the ground, regulating the climate, i.e. creating microclimates. Areas without trees are experiencing more variations of temperature, humidity and constant wind during unusual seasons than forested areas.

- Increased droughts: We are experiencing the driest period of the century. Please remember that forests attract rain, and where there is a lot of vegetation the environmental humidity increases, as well as the underground water reservations.

- Floods: The ground soil retains rainwater so the roots prevent erosion of earth. Sad proof of this is that where there has been a fire, it is probable that there will be floods the following winter.

- Erosion: Apart from preventing wind and water removing the fertile earth, trees also prevent the sun from causing desertification to the ground, since sunlight is suitable for the leaves, not for the ground, which dries out and cracks. Forest ground is usually soft, but where there are no trees it tends to goes hard, like a scab.

- Substitution of native trees, which are beneficial for the environment, for trees that are more profitable for the paper industry, but damage the local ecosystem.

- Etc.

What damages to our planet could be prevented by joining the Nature Friendly Billing program?

Fuentes

- Deforestation of the planet.

- Consumption of a hundred thousand liters of water, a more and more scarce resource, for each thousand kilos of manufactured paper.

- Pumping about ten thousand liters of highly polluted water into rivers and seas for every thousand kilos of manufactured paper.

- Pumping about ten thousand liters of highly polluted water into rivers and seas for every thousand kilos of manufactured paper.

- Emissions of organ chlorate compounds: The high toxicity of the paper industry is fundamentally due to the bleaching process using chlorine, the so-called organ chlorate compounds (more than thousand different ones) are formed through a chemical reaction of the pulp with chlorine.

Excessive consumption of electrical power by the paper industry, since 17% comes from thermal power stations, contributes to the greenhouse effect and generates acid rain.

One series of compound organ chlorates is particularly dangerous: The so-called dioxins, the most potent poison ever invented. Its toxicity is 70.000 times higher than that of cyanide. A carton of milk without any interior aluminum protection can contaminate the contents with dioxins so badly that some countries, such as New Zealand, have banned them.

- Excessive consumption of electrical power by the paper industry, since 17% comes from thermal power stations, contributes to the greenhouse effect and generates acid rain.

- A constant increase of residuals, since Europe alone generates about two hundred thirty million kilos of paper and cardboard per day.

- Etc.
